61 Egg Puns That Are Eggs-traordinarily Funny

By
Melissa Jones
60 egg pun

Eggs are objectively the funniest food. I don’t make the rules. Something about their shape, their fragility, the fact that they’re basically nature’s little surprise package, it all just lends itself to wordplay. I’ve been sitting on these egg puns for a while now (like a hen, get it, okay we’re starting).

1. The Classic Opener

That’s an egg-cellent idea!

Yeah, I know. Everyone’s heard this one. But you can’t make an egg pun list without it, that’d be like making an omelet without cracking a few… you know what, I’m not finishing that sentence.

2. Scrambled Priorities

Why did the egg fail its driving test? It kept scrambling at the intersections.

3.

I’m egg-hausted after today and I don’t even feel bad about using that one. It’s Monday. We’re all just trying to survive.

4. A Rapid-Fire Situation

  • You’re egg-sceptional and I mean that.
  • No really, you’re egg-straordinary.
  • Okay fine, you’re just okay. But in an egg-cellent way.

Three in a row. I regret nothing.

5.

What do you call an egg that goes on safari? An egg-splorer.

6. Genuinely Proud of This One

My friend asked me if I believe in egg-sistentialism. I told him I think, therefore I ham. He didn’t laugh. I’ve been thinking about it for three days. It works on like four levels if you really commit to it, the Descartes reference, the breakfast tie-in, the fact that ham and eggs are philosophically bound together in the “commitment vs. involvement” parable. This is my magnum opus of egg puns and I will not be taking criticism.

7.

Don’t egg-aggerate. You weren’t “almost late.” You were 45 minutes early. Relax.

8.

That’s egg-zactly what I was thinking.

9. For the Group Chat

Just sent “I’m feeling egg-static about this weekend” to my friends with zero context. Two people left the chat. Worth it.

10.

Why did the egg go to school? To get egg-ucated. (I’m sorry. I’m genuinely sorry. But it stays.)

11.

Let me egg-splain something to you: if you don’t like puns, you and I are fundamentally incompatible as people.

Side note, has anyone else noticed that every brunch place in 2026 has some version of “eggs-traordinary” on their menu? It’s always in a cursive font. Always. I saw one last week that said “Shell Yeah!” on the wall in neon and I nearly cried tears of joy and rage simultaneously. Wait, I’m not supposed to use that word. I nearly cried tears of joy and rage at the same time.

12. The Instagram Caption Collection

Shell we dance? 🍳

(That one’s free. Post it with your brunch photo. Tag me.)

13.

What did the egg say to the boiling water? “It’s gonna take me a minute to get hard, I just got laid.”

An oldie. A classic. My grandmother told me this one, which says a lot about my grandmother.

14.

You crack me up.

15.

I tried to come up with an egg pun about the albumen specifically but honestly the joke was too inside.

Get it? Because the albumen is… inside the… okay moving on.

16. A Stretch and I Know It

The car needs an egg-nition check.

Look. LOOK. I know that’s barely an egg pun. “Ig” does not equal “egg.” But I’ve committed to this list and we’re only at 16 so you’re gonna have to deal with some filler. Tbh this is the pun equivalent of a rice cake, technically qualifies as food.

17.

“How do you want your eggs?”
“In a cake, ideally.”
“Sir, this is a diner.”
“Then I’ll take them over-easy. But know that I’m settling.”

18.

I need some egg-stra help with this crossword. 7 letters, “breakfast staple.” I’ve got O-M-E-L-E-T but that’s only six. Wait. No it’s not. I can’t count.

19. Niche Knowledge Corner

What do you call the air cell at the blunt end of an egg that gets bigger as the egg ages? A space that really knows how to egg-spand.

If you knew what an air cell was without Googling it, we should be friends. If you also know it’s measured during candling to determine freshness grade, we should probably get married.

20.

Omelette you finish, but this is one of the greatest egg puns of all time.

21.

He’s a real egg-spert in the kitchen. Specifically, he can boil water and set a timer. That counts.

22.

Why don’t eggs tell jokes? They’d crack each other up.

23. Another One I’m Proud Of

My therapist said I put all my eggs in one basket. I said that’s literally what egg cartons are. She said that’s not the point. I said maybe the real egg pun was the friends we made along the way. She’s raising her rates.

24.

This dish is egg-squisite! (Said to my microwave scrambled eggs at 2am. No witnesses.)

25. Cluster Round

  • Egg-scape room, when you need to leave brunch early
  • Egg-stinguisher, what you need when you burn your omelet
  • Egg-streme sports, competitive egg-and-spoon racing

26.

What do you call an egg who’s a detective? Hard-boiled.

Come on. That one’s perfect. The noir vibes. The trench coat. I’m picturing a tiny egg in a fedora and I’ve never been happier.

27.

Don’t egg-nore my texts, Jessica.

28.

I walked into a bar and ordered an egg. The bartender said, “We don’t serve breakfast.” I said, “That’s okay, I’m not egg-specting much.” Then I sat there in silence for forty minutes because I’d already used my one joke.

29.

What an egg-sperience that was! (Caption this under literally any photo. It works every time. Trust me.)

30. The Halfway Point, Baby

We’re halfway through and I’m not even tired. That’s a lie. I’m deeply tired. But the puns sustain me like protein from a well-cooked egg white.

31.

Why did the egg refuse to fight? It didn’t want to get beaten.

32.

You’re poaching my ideas and I won’t stand for it.

33. For the Science Nerds

Did you hear about the egg that studied the Maillard reaction? It wanted to understand why it always got a browning at the edges. Turns out, it was an ov-achievement in protein denaturation.

Okay that one’s a reach and also technically more of a chemistry joke with an egg in it, but if you’ve ever deep-fried an egg and watched the lace edges form, you know the Maillard reaction is the real star of breakfast. I will die on this hill.

34.

I felt egg-nored at the party. Nobody even noticed my egg costume. It was HAND-PAINTED.

35.

Egg-cuse me? Did you just say you don’t like deviled eggs?

36.

What do you call a city full of eggs? New Yolk City.

I know. I KNOW. It’s so obvious it hurts. But it also kinda slaps as a caption? Post your NYC brunch pic with “New Yolk City 🥚” and tell me you don’t get at least 12 likes from people who hate themselves for laughing.

37.

The crowd was egg-nited by the performance. Standing ovation. Eggs everywhere. It was a mess, honestly.

38.

Can you give me an egg-sample of what you mean? Preferably sunny-side up.

39. I Hate This One But Here It Is

What do eggs do for fun? Kara-yolk-e.

That barely works phonetically. I wrote it at 1am and I refuse to delete it because suffering builds character.

40.

You’re such a good egg.

No pun surgery needed on that one. It’s just a nice thing to say. Sometimes the egg pun is already baked into the language and you just gotta appreciate it.

41.

Why did the omelet break up with the scramble? They had a whisking problem they couldn’t work through.

42.

“I told my coworker I was writing sixty egg puns.”
“What’d they say?”
“They said I had a few screws loose.”
“Do you?”
“No, but I’ve definitely cracked.”

43. The Obscure One That Only Farmers Will Get

What do you call an egg with a rough, bumpy shell caused by excess calcium deposition during formation in the shell gland? A body-checked egg. What do you call it at a comedy show? A tough crowd.

If you raise chickens, you’ve seen body-checked eggs. If you don’t raise chickens, sorry, this one wasn’t for you. Not every egg pun can be universal. Some are artisanal.

44.

Walking on eggshells around you is exhausting. Also literal eggshells. My kitchen floor is a disaster.

45.

That was egg-streme and I loved every second.

46.

What do you call an egg that’s always late? A slow poach.

47. Peak Pun Achievement (IMO)

My kid asked where eggs come from. I said chickens. She asked where chickens come from. I said eggs. She stared at me. I stared at her. We’ve been locked in this philosophical standoff for three days. Neither of us will blink. This is what egg-sistentialism actually looks like in practice.

48.

Fry-day is my favorite day of the week. Obviously.

49.

He really came out of his shell at the party.

50. The Nerd Cluster

  • In egg-onomics, supply and demand are always scrambled
  • The egg-quilibrium was disrupted
  • My egg-quation doesn’t balance

None of these are great. All of them are necessary. Moving on.

51.

Why do eggs hate social media? Too many trolls trying to egg them on.

52.

I’m not yolking around, this is serious business.

Honestly I think about eggs way too much for a normal person. Last week I spent twenty minutes reading about how a century egg is made (it’s preserved in clay and ash and quicklime for weeks and turns dark green and honestly it sounds terrifying and I want to try one). Anyway.

53.

What’s an egg’s least favorite day? Fry-day the 13th.

(Yeah, I already used Fry-day. Sue me. The sequel is worse and that’s the point.)

54. Caption-Ready

Yolk’s on you 😎

55.

That movie had me on the egg of my seat. Okay NOW I’m reaching. The structural integrity of these puns is declining rapidly and I respect you enough to admit that.

56.

What did the hen say to her eggs before school? “Don’t do anything half-baked.”

57. Third Obscure One, For the Foodies

Did you hear about the chef who perfected the 63-degree egg? She said it was a matter of precise temp-egg-ture control. For the uninitiated: a 63-degree egg is cooked sous vide at exactly 63°C, which sets the white to a custard-like texture while the yolk stays liquid. It’s the egg equivalent of a mic drop. Every chef I know has opinions about this and they’re all loud about it.

58.

I’ve got egg on my face. Literally. I was eating too fast. It happens.

59.

“How do comedians like their eggs?”
“Funny side up.”

Ngl, that one took me longer to come up with than I’d like to admit. My brain kept going to “pun-ny side up” which is the same joke but worse.

60. The Grand Finale (Sort Of)

What did one egg say to the other after reading sixty egg puns? “I think we’ve been over-done.”

BONUS: 61.

Couldn’t stop at 60. Egg-cess is my brand.

If you made it this far, you’re either my mom or someone who genuinely loves egg puns, and either way, you’re a good egg. 🍳
